Please note that the walks listed below may cross uneven ground and rough terrain. Please wear suitable footwear. All FOSPA events are free of charge and open to non-members, excepting the AGM which is for members only.

Archaeological Walk led by Dr. Mike Hodder: Saturday 08 October 10.00. from Boldmere Gate car park – This will include medieval boundaries, Holly Hurst and remains of a First World War camp.

As with all Fospa walks, there will be no charge for these events. As some of you will know, parts of the Park can be very muddy.

Walk through time with the Friends of Sutton Park Association

Location: Start Town Gate

Tuesday 13 September A 2.5 mile walk through time with the Friends of Sutton Park Association – Led by Dr. Mike Hodder around some of the many well-preserved archaeological remains of the Park’s past, from a medieval deer park to twentieth century soldiers. We will see banks and ditches that show how deer were hunted and woods were managed, fishponds, millpools and trackways, remains of a golf course and racecourse, and traces of a First World War camp.

The walk is on rough grass and unsurfaced paths, and includes uneven surfaces and slopes. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. There is no shelter on route.

Start Town Gate 10.00. (nearest postcode: B73 6BU – off Park Road – finish 12.00.

Dr. Mike Hodder will give a talk on the Archaeology of Sutton Park – finding, recording, explaining and protecting. This will provide an introduction to archaeology walk in Sutton Park on Tuesday 13 September.

Bioblitz

All-day event

The Park Rangers will be hosting their annual bioblitz.  A chance to take part in a variety of environmental activities, including reptile surveys, bat walks, moth trapping and pond dipping. Contact ranger service for more details.

Botanical Walk

Join us for a Botanical Walk in the Little Bracebridge area, led by Prof. Ian Trueman, author of the soon-to-be published Flora of Sutton Park.

10:00am on Saturday 18th June.

Meet at the top of the Ash Track
(via Streetly Gate –  turn left after about half a mile on to pot-holed track – Grid Ref:   SP 096 980).

Unfortunately, due to testing positive for Covid 19, our Guest Speaker from Historic England is unable to attend.  Instead Fospa President Dr. Mike Hodder will talk of recent archaeological work in the Park, including H.A.T. (Historical, Archaeological, Taskforce) and the WWII camp at Streetly.
